For nearly 40 years, my professional life has focused on assessing and quantifying the effects of sedimentation processes on landscape evolution at a variety of spatial and time scales, especially as affected by society’s activities in the landscape. I’m fortunate to work with NHC’s team of specialists applying state-of-the-art measurement and analysis tools for predicting adjustments in river morphology, rates and locations of tidal marsh evolution, and how aquatic habitats adapt to these ever-changing physical conditions. In a recent project, I served as the State of California’s expert witness on hydrodynamic and sedimentation impacts of the State Water Project on Sacramento San Joaquin Delta levees. When not thinking about sediment budgets, I enjoy hiking in the parks and open spaces of western North America, and then savoring a nice farm-to-fork meal with family and friends to celebrate life.
