Plans are underway to replace the aging Pattullo Bridge, a critical transportation link and one of the oldest bridges in Metro Vancouver. Tidal fluctuations, river geometry, and severe scour conditions combine for a highly dynamic project site. NHC has worked with numerous other firms and consultants on multiple aspects of the project, including hydrotechnical studies for the conceptual design, the Environmental Assessment Application, and the navigation study. We completed a robust assessment of the river hydraulics and morphology using innovative three-dimensional numerical and physical hydraulic modelling techniques and offered insights and recommendations based on our unique specialization, extensive history working on the Pattullo Bridge crossing, and decades of experience on projects along the Fraser River.
