Whether it’s endangered species in modified river systems or other aquatic species, NHC delivers a comprehensive assessment and evaluation of environmental flow needs, often incorporating physical habitat, water quality (including temperature), hydraulic connectivity, fish movement modelling, and assessment of groundwater withdrawals on surface water systems.

NHC has expertise in fisheries engineering, specifically in assessment and design for fish passage, fish screening and protection, and fishway design for both managed and volitional passage. We incorporate our knowledge of hydraulics, sediment transport, geomorphology, fish biology and physiology—including application of state-of-the-art ecohydraulic models—in the evaluation of project effects for development and environmental assessments, permitting, and relicensing.
